eUCP (Electronic UCP)

The ICC supplement to UCP 600 that governs the electronic presentation of documents under documentary credits, currently at version 2.1.

eUCP (Electronic UCP) is the International Chamber of Commerce supplement to UCP 600 that governs the electronic, or mixed paper-and-electronic, presentation of documents under a letter of credit. The current version is eUCP 2.1.

Why it matters

UCP 600 was drafted around paper presentations. eUCP fills the gap: it defines what counts as an electronic record, how presentation occurs, what happens if a system is unavailable, and how the dating, signing, and authentication of records are handled. eUCP applies only when the credit explicitly states it is subject to eUCP.

For exporters, eUCP unlocks faster presentation cycles when paired with platforms that issue electronic bills of lading and digitally signed commercial documents. Banks remain bound by the UCP examination standard — they decide on the face of the records whether they comply.
