GLOSSARY

Agentic Commerce

Software that takes actions inside commerce workflows on behalf of humans, with guardrails. In B2B trade, includes buyer qualification, invoicing, collections, and reconciliation.

Agentic commerce is software that takes actions in commerce workflows on behalf of humans, within explicit guardrails. It is distinguished from AI assistants by the breadth of actions an agent can take autonomously and by its ability to orchestrate multi-step workflows across systems.

Why it matters

In B2B global trade, agentic systems already run in production for buyer qualification, invoice generation and collection, cash application, compliance screening, and dispute triage. The economic opportunity is large because cross-border C2C is dense with repetitive, rule-driven steps that agents execute at a fraction of the cost of human operators — without the error rate of hand-coded automation.

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • Human-in-the-loop
  • Agent observability
  • Guardrails
